Falling Glacier Kills Three Women Taking Selfie Near Saiful Muluk Lake In Pakistan

Saiful Muluk Lake, Pakistan – At 4 PM on Sunday August 21, 2016 three woman from Karachi were killed when a glacier collapsed causing an avalanche that buried them near Saiful Muluk Lake near Naran in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

According to multiple reports, the women were taking a selfie at the time of the incident. The DailyTimes.co.pk reports that the women took “selfie under a narrow place overlooking a huge glacier on Lake Saiful Malook Road.

Local authorities responded to the accident. They recovered the bodies in about an hour. They were dead on the scene and the bodies were turned over to their families. The victims were “identified as Rozina Bano wife of Saleem, Irum Bano wife of Waqas and Nirma Bano Sufyan” (The Nation).

Saiful Muluk Lake sits at 3224 meters / 10578 feet at the northern end of the Kaghan Valley. As one of Pakistan’s highest lakes, it is a popular tourist destination accessed by a rough road.
