
Mount Morefreddo, Italy – On December 7, 2016 three off piste skiers slipped on ice on Mount Morefreddo (2770 m) in Val Troncea near Pragelato in Turin, Italy. The three skiers fell during their descent and were swept roughly 100 meters down the slope and taken into a ravine of at least 30 meters – leaving one dead and two injured.
Mountain Rescue was notified of the incident around 15:30 by one of the members of the party. The two injured individuals were taken to hospital. At this point it is unclear whether this incident was caused by an avalanche or a fall on ice as reports offer conflicting stories.
