5 Indian Soldiers Die After Avalanche In Kupwara | 20 Soldiers Killed In Avalanches This Week

Kupwara, Jammu & Kashmir, India – On Saturday, January 28, 2017 five soldiers with the Indian Army were struck by an avalanche while en route to their post at the Machil sector near the Line of Control in Kupwara in Kashmir. All five of the soldiers were rescued from the avalanche on Saturday.

Due to adverse weather conditions, transport to the hospital in Srinagar was delayed several days. On Monday, all five of the soldiers died as a result of the avalanche.

Since January 25, 20 soldiers in Kashmir have been killed by avalanches. Fourteen were killed in two separate avalanches in Gurez and one army major was killed near SonamargNewsNation.in posted a list of all of the soldiers who died in avalanches this week. Four civilians were also killed in avalanches near Bandipora.
