
Tajikistan – Over the weekend of January 28-29, 2017 a series of avalanches hit Tajikistan killing at least 7 people.
Five people were killed on the highway between the Capital of Dushanbe and Khujand. Authorities note that over 200 vehicles were trapped after 40 avalanches hit the Dushanbe-Khujand road. Two more individuals died in avalanches in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in the remote Pamir region of Tajikistan.
Update 2/2: It is now reported than there are 8 dead and 1 missing. One of those fatalities was Sergeant Sayumars Gulmadov, a 22-year-old police officer who was helping to pull people from the debris (RIA.ru)
