Skier Killed In Off Piste Avalanche In Hautes-Alpes, France

Hautes-Alpes, France – On Tuesday, March 7, 2017 a 52-year-old skier was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche in an off piste area near the Clos Chardon chair in the La Forêt Blanche (White Forest) area between the ski resorts of Vars and Risoul in the Hautes-Alpes department of France.

The skier had skied with his daughter and 2 friends during the day. At the end of the day he went off for a solo run. This is when he was caught in an avalanche in an off piste area near the marked trail of the Pra Rond track. The man was buried 40 cm deep.

His daughter alerted authorities at around 18:00 when the skier did not return. PGHM responded to the scene of the accident and located the man. He did not survive.
