Pacific Crest Trail, California – On July 8, 2017 two search and rescue volunteers with the Kern County Sheriff’s Department were robbed at gunpoint on the Pacific Crest Trail while conducting a rescue mission. The incident occurred on the PCT between Highway 58 and Kelso Valley Road in California.

According to TurnTo23.com, the “suspects were two Hispanic male adults carrying rifles and handguns.” Luckily, no one was injured during the incident. After the armed robbery, the “the Kern County Fire Department assisted Sheriff’s personnel with a hoist rescue of the injured hiker and three others” (TurnTo23.com)
The PCTA.org posted that a public safety closure in the area is in effect until “the threat has been mitigated.” Authorities will investigate further.
