Legendary “Dirtbag” Mountaineer Fred Beckey Dies At Age 94

Seattle, WA – On Monday, October 30, 2017 legendary dirtbag, extraordinary mountain climber, and famous author Fred Beckey (1923-2017) passed away of congestive heart failure at age 94 in Seattle, Washington. Beckey is famous for his “seven-decade climbing career” where he pioneered routes on “North America’s tallest peaks” (NYTimes.com).

As the ultimate dirtbag climber, Beckey dedicated his life to exploring the mountains. He is know for his numerous first descents, inspiring lifestyle, and authoring numerous  mountaineering books highlighting the mountains in North America.

Hopefully Beckey’s mountain adventures will inspire you and many future generations to explore the mountains of the world. He was one of the greatest climbers of all time. RIP.
