Avalanche Kills Ski Tourer On Geigelstein In Chiemgau Alps In Bavaria, Germany

Bavaria, Germany – On Sunday, January 21, 2018 a 30-year-old ski tourer from Oberwiesenthal was caught and buried in an avalanche near 1808-meter Geigelstein in the Chiemgau Alps near Schleching in Bavaria, Germany.

The skier’s 57-year-old companion was also caught in the avalanche, but ended up on the surface of the snow. The companion located the victim with a transceiver, dug him out, and initiated first aid to the unconscious skier until rescuers arrived. The victim later succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.
