
Jeti-Oguz, Kyrgyzstan – On January 21, 2018 an avalanche killed a 39-year-old local man who was collecting firewood in the Kok-Zhayik mountain pasture in the Jeti-Oguz district in the Issyk-Kul region in northeastern Kyrgyzstan.
The avalanche occurred while three locals were in the area. Two of the locals managed to escape, but one of the men was caught, buried, and killed in the avalanche.
The victim’s body was recovered by a search team of 18 rescuers and 30 locals on Monday.
