Cime de l’Agnel, Italy – On Thursday, February 15, 2018 a 42-year-old French skier was killed in an avalanche while descending from 2927-meter Cime del l’Agnel near Vallone della Barra in Entracque above the Valle Gesso in the Cuneo Alps of Italy.

The accident occurred at approximately 2300 meters near the French/Italian border in a gully that leads to the Soria Ellena Refuge. The victim was in a group of four people that had stayed in the shelter and then gone skiing. One individual was caught in the avalanche and dragged into and over rocks for 300 meters. The other two skiers were not caught and were unharmed.
The victim’s companions reached Chiotas Lake, found cell service, and notified authorities. Rescuers responded to the scene, but unfortunately, the mountaineer did not survive.
