High Tatras, Slovakia – On Sunday, February 18, 2018 a 35-year-old Polish climber was caught, buried and killed in an avalanche while climbing ‘Wide Ice; in the High Tatras of Slovakia.

Three of the climbers were caught in the avalanche. One was only partially buried, but two were fully buried. Skiers and other witnesses in the area responded immediately. They located and recover both climbers using avalanche equipment.
Rescuers responded to the scene and initiated first aid. A 30-year-old woman was transported to the hospital in serious condition. Unfortunately the 35-year-old man did not survive.

Lawis.at reports that this accident occurred on 2018-02-18 at 10:10 at Strbavy lad in the Velka Student Dolina in Slovakia. They report a Lat/Long of 49.1671° N / 20.2031° E. That is a 40 degree northeast aspect at 1500 meters. The size 2 avalanche was 3 cm deep, 300 meters long, and 10 meters wide. One person was partially buried and one was fully buried.
