
Etale, France – On Sunday, February 18, 2018 a 29-year-old ski tourer was killed in an avalanche at 2483 meters in the “Combe à Claudius” on on the Etale massif above the Giettaz-en-Aravis station in Haute-Savoie, France.
The accident occurred in an off piste sector. The skier had followed two other skiers towards a ski line. These skiers sounded the alarm after seeing the victim collapse a cornice under his weight and get dragged the length of the slope.
Rescuers responded and located the victim, who was unconscious and on the surface. Unfortunately, they were unable to revive the skier.
