Ketchikan, Alaska – On Sunday, February 25, 2018 a 39-year-old snowboarder was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche on Dude Mountain near Ketchikan, Alaska.

A large avalanche occurred after two snowboarders hiked to the summit. As they descended, they triggered the slide. WashingtonPost.com reports that the avalanche measured 100 yards by 1500 yards.
One snowboarder was buried. The other conducted a transceiver search and began to dig, but was unable to locate the victim. That skier then returned to cell service to call for help.
Due to the time, a rescue effort was not launched until Monday. Rescuers had to access the site on skis/snowshoes due to weather.
Alaska State Troopers identified the victim as 39-year-old Marvin Scott of Ketchikan, AK.
