Val Badia, Italy – On Wednesday, March 14, 2018 a 21-year-old skier was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche while skiing in a popular off piste area at about 2400-meters near the Vallon Lift at Alta Badia in Corvara in Val Badia in the Dolomites of Alto Adige/South Tyrol in Italy.

When the skier did not return home at the end of the day, his family alerted authorities around 21:00. Rescuers responded to the area via snow groomers and quickly discovered an avalanche. They had no results with an avalanche transceiver search so they began searching with probes. After about 30 minutes, they located the victim. Unfortunately, he did not survive.

Tageszeitung.it identified the victim as 21-year-old Andreas Rottonara from Val Badia.

We will try to update this post when more information is available.
