Brown Bear Kills Hiker, Injures Rescuer Near Eagle River, Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska – On Monday, June 18, 2018, 44-year-old Michael Soltis went for a hike and did not return. On Wednesday one of the individuals searching for Soltis was attacked and injured by a brown bear. The incident took place near Hiland Road in the South Fork Eagle River Valley near Chugach State Park outside of Eagle River near Anchorage, Alaska.

Upon further investigation of the area where the rescuer was attacked, authorities located Soltis’ body and confirmed the missing hiker was killed by a brown bear.

Authorities are currently searching for the bear, but at this point the bear is still at large. If the bear is found, it will be killed.
