Ultar Sar, Pakistan – On Friday June 29, 2018 Austrian mountaineer Christian Huber was killed in an avalanche that hit the climber’s tent at 5900 meters on Ultar Sar in the Hunza Valley of the Batura Muztagh in the Karakoram of Pakistan.

Huber was part of a three-man mountaineering expedition. The other two climbers were British mountaineers Bruce Normand and Timothy Miller. Normand and Miller suffered injuries, but survived. Pakistani Army rescuers located and moved the two injured climbers to safety.
Ultar Sar is a 7388-meter (24239′) peak in the Batura Muztagh in the Karakoram Range. It was first climbed on July 11, 1996 by Akito Yamazaki and Kiyoshi Matsuoka.
