Avalanche Kills 3 Mountaineers On Alpamayo In Cordillera Blanca Of Peru

Alpamayo, Peru – On Saturday, June 30, 2018 three mountaineers were caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche while climbing 5947-meter Alpamayo in Huascaran National Park in the Cordillera Blanca range of the Andes in Peru.

According to Peru.pe the three victims were a Peruvian guide, a British citizen, and a Slovenian citizen. They were identified as Samuel Paul Richard Blelock from England, 27-year-old Eva Zontar of Litija, Slovenia, and Peruvian Guide Jamie Quintana Figueroa. An Argentine mountaineer survived the avalanche.

Rescuers with the High Mountain Division of the National Police located the bodies of the mountaineers on Sunday. Authorities transported the bodies off of the mountain on Monday.
