Sherpa Missing After Avalanche On 8,167-Meter Dhaulagiri In Nepal

Dhaulagiri, Nepal – On September 19, 2018 an avalanche hit a group of seven Sherpas while they were fixing ropes between Camps 2 and 3 for Seven Summits Treks on 8,167-meter Dhaulagiri in western Nepal. Unfortunately, 24-year-old Dawa Geljen Sherpa is missing after this unfortunate incident.

A search and rescue operation was initiated. The survivors all made it back to base camp. Both air and ground searches are being conducted to find the missing Sherpa.

The Department of Tourism only issued two permits for Dhaulagiri during the autumn season.
