Beehive Basin Recon Day

Solid day in Beehive Basin, our local backcountry playground. After getting booted up at the trailhead, Jeremy and I realized that we had forgotten sunglasses. We sped down icy roads to get the necessary gear and finally got on the trail – a late start.
After a long slog over frosting covered frozen salsa on the Beehive Super Highway, we saw our destination, Beehive Cirque – a place with lots of beautiful lines.
Addison finally caught up to us around the Beehive Saddle, when we transitioned to boot crampons for a steep skin.
We had some great views of the west face of Gallatin Peak. Looks a bit thinner than we had expected. Wondering what the north face looks like… That’s on the agenda for next week.
Views were spectacular. It’s always a pleasure to see our in-bounds (currently closed) playground – Lone Peak Mountain Resort.

A nice view down the mellow valleys of Beehive – miles of rolling, playful, terrain. It’s always a journey to get into Beehive, but the options are countless. This shot is roughly 2500 feet above the parking lot.

We opted against the Beehive Ridge attempt today. At 2pm with dark clouds in the distance, we’ll try again another day.
We did have some great views of other objectives like Fan and Sphinx and the Taylor Hilgards.
Our lovely line, the Chunder Couloir. It was chundertastic. Watch out. It was a fun little game to avoid the death cookies.
Another potential line, will need to rappel into this one.

Overall fun day on a partly sunny/mostly cloudy/slightly warm day. Good recon and fun adventure. Tomorrow somewhere else…
