Backcountry Skier Partially Buried In Hatcher Pass Avalanche

Human Triggered Avalanche Buries Skier Up To His Chest

On Friday, November 6, 2015, a backcountry skier triggered an avalanche on Hatch Peak near Hatcher Pass north of Anchorage, Alaska. The skier was subsequently buried up to his chest.

There is limited information about the incident posted on the Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center site. There was no danger rating as early season conditions exist. The HPAC will start issuing avalanche advisories on November 14, 2015.

Please be safe out there. If there is enough snow to ski, there is enough snow to cause an avalanche. Take an avalanche course this winter.
