Skier Dies In Avalanche Outside of Katashina Village In Japan

Gunma, Japan – At approximately 12 PM on Sunday, January 31, 2016, Shigeki Yoshida, 36, was killed by an avalanche at Maehotakayama while backcountry skiing outside of Katashina Village in the Gunma Prefecture in Japan.

Yoshida was dug out in 20 minutes and was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

According to JapanToday.com, an avalanche warning was in effect “Friday to Sunday due to higher-than-normal temperatures.”
