Spearhead Huts Project Receives Approval from BC Parks

Are You Excited About a New Hut System Along The Spearhead Traverse?

The Spearhead Huts Committee has gotten the thumbs up from BC Parks to create a world-class backcountry hut system in Garibaldi Provincial Park along the Spearhead Traverse . After decades of hard work, they were granted a Park Use Permit in Garibaldi Provincial Park on February 12, 2016.

The Spearhead Huts Committee applied to BC Parks for the permit in December 2014. The detailed application included “the SHC’s management plan, a description of the project, a risk management plan, and several assessments, including avalanche, geotechnical, and environmental.”

Now that they have the permit, they have the ability to build three year-round backcountry huts spanning the 40km Spearhead ski traverse and uniting the Spearhead and Fitzsimmons ranges behind Whistler and Blackcomb.

The Spearhead Hut Committee will start by replacing the Himmelsbach hut with the Russet Hut. After that is completed, they will build huts on Mt. Pattison and Mt. Macbeth.

They estimate the project to be completed by winter 2018 and will cost approximately $3.5 million. Please donate money to this cool project at SpearheadHuts.org.
