One Child Dead, Two In Hospital After Being Buried In Roof Avalanche In Island Park, Idaho

Island Park, Idaho – At approximately 5:30 PM on Friday, February 26, 2016 three children were buried in a roof avalanche from a private cabin on upper Teton Avenue near Mack’s Inn in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest near Island Park, Idaho.

The three sisters, a two-year-old and two seven-year-olds, were buried for over 30 minutes after several feet of snow and ice slid off of the cabin’s roof. Emergency responders were able to dig them out of the snow and ice, but all three girls were unconscious. They were airlifted to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. The two-year-old died from her injuries and the other two children are currently in fair condition.
