Sugar Bowl Ski Instructor Carson May Was Found Buried Under 5 Feet Of Snow In The Backcountry Near Sugar Bowl Ski Resort
Sugar Bowl, California – On Monday, February 29, 2016 the body of ski instructor Carson May, 23, was found buried under 5 feet of snow about 1/4 mile from the Sugar Bowl Ski resort boundary on the backside of Mount Judah. May originally went missing on January 15.

At the time May went missing, search and rescue teams conducted an intense 5 day search that included over 400 people and 7 avalanche rescue dog teams that was suspended due to weather and avalanche conditions.
On February 29, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue team, El Dorado County Search and Rescue dog teams found the body while training. They went to the location where his cell phone was last pinged and let the search dogs see if they could locate a scent. Dogs then located the body under 5 feet of snow.
The Sierra Avalanche Center had rated avalanche danger at the time May went missing as considerable due to wind slabs and persistent slabs.
