Styria, Austria – On Sunday, April 9, 2017 a ski tourer was killed in an avalanche near the summit of Großer Bösenstein (2448 meters) in the Rottenmanner Tauern near the village of Hohentauern in the Murtal District of Styria, Austria.
The avalanche was set off by an unknown ski tourer in the area. It subsequently caught three ski tourers lower on the slope who were touring independently. A 50-year-old Austrian managed to escape the slide uninjured, a 57-year-old Austrian was dragged to the valley and suffered serious injures in the accident, and an unidentified victim was carried 40 meters over a rocky face.
