Illimani, Bolivia – On Sunday, April 30, 2017 a German climber was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche while climbing Illimani near La Paz, Bolivia with a guide.

The avalanche occurred around 5000 meters during heavy snowfall. Authorities managed to recover the body on Tuesday. The guide was rescued. Reports identify the victim as 29-year-old Martin Ariel Freiman.

Illimani is 2nd highest mountain in Bolivia at 6,438 meters or 21,120 feet. It is the highest peak in the Cordillera Real.
