Murmansk, Russia – On January 2, 2019 a 27-year-old snowboarder from St. Petersburg was killed in an avalanche near Kukisvumchorr Ski Resort in the Khibiny Mountains near Kirovsk in Murmansk in northwestern Russia.

The incident occurred around 14:00 after three individuals from St. Petersburg exited the ski area. They triggered an avalanche that measured 50 meters by 100 meters and is estimated to be 10,000 cubic meters. Two of the skiers were able to escape the avalanche.
Unfortunately, one person was fully buried. Rescuers did not locate her until 16:25. She was buried 1.5 meters deep and did not survive. MVestnik.ru identified the victim as Alenka Rogacheva.
