Avalanche Kills 2 Skiers Near The Torrent De La Fouly In Valais, Switzerland

La Fouly, Switzerland – On March 1, 2018 two ski tourers were killed in an avalanche at about 2200 meters while descending the Torrent de la Fouly near the village of La Fouly in Valais, Switzerland.

The victims were part of a group of 4 ski tourers who ski toured from La Fouly toward the Alpage de la Fouly. In the afternoon, two of the skiers turned around and two others continued onwards toward the Torrent de la Fouly.

When the two skiers did not return, the other skiers alerted authorities. Rescuers responded to the area and found an avalanche that measured 800 meters long by 100 meters wide with ski tracks entering the slide.

One victim was found in the afternoon on March 2 at 2.5 meters deep. The second victim was found in the morning of March 3.

SLF.ch reports that the avalanche occurred on 2018-03-01 in Orsieres in Valais on a northwest aspect at 2260 meters. The avalanche danger was 3/5.
