Oberalp Pass, Switzerland – On December 31, 2017 a 35-year-old snowshoer and her 40-year-old companion were caught in an avalanche while running from Oberalp Pass toward the Maighels hut near the Pazolastock in Tujetsch in Graubünden, Switzerland.
The woman was fully buried under half a meter of snow and her companion was only partially buried. The companion alerted authorities and rescuers responded. The buried partied was found by an avalanche dog, but was in critical condition. Rescuers flew her by helicopter to the hospital. Unfortunately on Monday, January 8, 2018 she succumbed to her injuries.
