Trentino, Italy – On Sunday, April 2, 2017 Luca Squizzato, 52, was climbing on Monte Nero in the Adamello-Presanella group near Trentino, Italy when he was caught in an avalanche and dragged into a ravine. Unfortunately, he did not survive.
According to LaProvinciaDivarese.it, Squizzato had parked in Val Nambrone and climbed to the Rifugio Segantini where he spent the night.
The next day he attempted a rock and ice mix route on Monte Nero near the Couloir dell’H, when an avalanche of snow, ice, and rock fell from above and dragged him approximately 200 meters depositing him into a crevasse/ravine. When he did not return on Sunday evening, Squizzato’s wife alerted authorities.
Mountain Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 2800 meters and recovered the body around noon on Monday, April 3, 2017.
