Avalanche Kills Ski Tourer Near Piau-Englay In The Hautes-Pyrenees Of France


Aragnouet, France – On Tuesday, January 9, 2018 a 35-year-old ski tourer was caught, buried, and killed in an avalanche at 1600 meters on Pique Poque near the ski resort of Piau-Englay near Aragnouet in the Hautes-Pyrenees of France.

The victim was skiing with a backcountry companion at the time of the incident. The pair were returning to their vehicle when the avalanche occurred. The friend alerted authorities.

Rescuers responded via helicopter. The victim was located and recovered quickly using dogs and the avalanche transceiver that the skier was wearing. Unfortunately, the skier did not survive.
