
Taos, New Mexico – On January 17, 2019 two skiers were killed in an inbounds avalanche on K3 Chute on Kachina Peak at Taos Ski Resort in New Mexico. The 1st skier died on 17 January. The 2nd skier passed away on 21 January.
Rescuers responded to the scene immediately. Hundreds of rescuers formed probe lines to search the debris. The victims were buried 22 minutes before they was extracted from the snow.
CBSNews.com identified the 1st victim as 26-year-old Matthew Zonghetti of Massachusetts.

The CAIC reports that accident occurred at approximately 11:45 on 2019/01/17 at Taos Ski Valley. Two inbounds riders were caught and buried. One was killed.

UPDATE 1/22: Unfortunately, the 2nd person who was buried in the Taos avalanche succumbed to their injuries. He was also recovered in 22 minutes and transported to the hospital.
