Avalanche Kills Two Snowmobilers North Of Blue River, British Columbia

Two Experienced Snowmobilers Killed In Avalanche in Wells Grey Provincial Park Near Blue River, BC

Blue River, British Columbia – On Monday, March 14, 2016 an avalanche buried two members of a group of seven experienced snowmobilers sledding northwest of Blue River, British Columbia in Wells Grey Provincial Park. The two Albertan snowmobilers caught in the avalanche did not survive.

The other five snowmobilers were equipped with proper rescue gear and were able to locate and dig out the buried men. Unfortunately, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Kamloops Search and Rescue and Wells Grey SAR responded to the scene at first light on Tuesday morning.

There have been 13 avalanche fatalities in Canada this year – 12 snowmobilers and 1 skier (CTVNews.ca).
