Russian Skier Killed In Off Piste Avalanche in Valfréjus In Savoie, France

Valfréjus, France – On Sunday, February 5, 2017 a Russian skier was caught, buried, and killed in an off piste avalanche while skiing the Seuil Couloir (2250 meters) in Valfréjus in Savoie, France.

The avalanche occurred at approximately 15:30. LeDauphine.com reports that the avalanche was 60 meters wide  by 50 centimeters high. The 55-year-old Russian victim was carried approximately 400 meters. Rescuers responded quickly but the skier did not survive.

Due to recent snowfall and strong winds, authorities with Meteo-France had rated the avalanche danger as 4 out of 5 (high) above 2000 meters.
