Avalanche Kills Snowboarder At Vasilitsa Ski Resort In Greece


Vasilitsa Ski Resort, Greece – On Friday, December 29, 2017 a 32-year-old snowboarder was killed in an off piste avalanche on “Galani” at the Vasilitsa Ski Resort in the Pindos Mountains in northern Greece.

The victim was part of a six person group who traveled to Vasilitsa Ski Resort to celebrate New Years. The ski resort was closed at the time of the incident, but the group still decided to go snowboarding (Iefimerida.gr). Unfortunately, the victim was caught in an avalanche and dragged 100-120 meters. He was buried up to 20 minutes (Iefimerida.gr).

The man’s friends alerted authorities at the resort, who located the snowboarder. The man was unconscious and hypothermic. Rescuers transported the man to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, the man did not survive.
