Ben Nevis, Scotland – When Iain Cameron of the Royal Meteorological Society conducted his annual snow survey this year he noted that Ben Nevis is completely free of snow. The last time this occurred was in 2006.
For the first time in 11 years there is no snow anywhere on Ben Nevis. It would have melted a few days ago, at this location. @bbcweather pic.twitter.com/5Ydv8lp2dQ

Typically some snow patches stick around the higher mountains of Lochaber and the Cairngorms, but according to the BBC.com, “only three patches of snow survive in Scotland’s mountains – one on Aonach Beag in Lochaber and two on Braeriach in the Cairngorms.” Cameron believes these snow patches could disappear by mid-September. The main reason for this is the lack of snow that fell last winter.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. It is 1,344 meters or 4,411 feet high and sits at a lat/long of 56°47′49″N 5°00′13″W .
