ENSA Chamonix tests the strengths of deadman anchors that are typically used in alpine environments. They test skis, snow stakes, ice axes, bottles, plastic bags filled with snow, and other items that might be used for rappels or belay anchors. Interesting stuff.
How Strong Are Snow Anchors?
If you’ve ever wondered how strong are snow anchors, you’ll want to watch this.
Official Description From YouTube:
The ENSA equipment testing department studied the strength of different types of snow anchor commonly used by mountain climbers, skiers and rescue workers: snow-stakes, ice-axes, skis, ski poles…etc.
These are known as deadman anchors.
The results suggest that the angle at which a deadman is placed, significantly affects its holding power.
