Ama Dablam was climbed for the 1st time on 13 March 1961 via the SW Ridge by Barry Bishop (USA), Mike Gill (NZ), Wally Romanes (NZ), and Mike Ward (UK) – all members of the Silver Hut Scientific and Mountaineering expedition of 1960-61 led by Sir Edmund Hillary. This first ascent of Ama Dablam was an unauthorized climb.
Bear Grylls became the youngest Briton to climb Ama Dablam at age 23 in 1997.
Stuart Holmes paraglided from the summit of Ama Dablam in 2011. He may not have been the first one to do so.
Valery Rozov lost his life trying to base jump from Ama Dablam in November 2017.
