Hatcher Pass, Alaska – On Sunday, January 29, 2017 a cow moose triggered an avalanche on Arkose Ridge in Hatcher Pass, Alaska. A backcountry enthusiast caught the avalanche event on camera and spooking the moose who bolted onto a steep slope.

The moose triggered a NW face and disappeared from view. According to ADN.com, “The witness unsuccessfully tried to find the moose after the 1,000-foot slide but wasn’t properly equipped to dig the animal out.” That article states that according to Jed Workman of the Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center, the moose survived the slide.
