Mountain Safety Research Issues Recall On Operator T, Operator D, and Responder Avalanche Rescue Shovels
On May 12, 2015, Mountain Safety Research (MSR) issued a recall of the Operator T, Operator D, and Responder avalanche rescue shovels. If you have have one of these snow shovels manufactured by MSR, stop using it immediately and contact MSR.
According to MSR, the issue with the shovels is that the lock buttons on the lower shaft that connect the handle to the blade can fail, rendering the shovel unable to be used as intended.
The recall affects about 4,300 shovels in the United States and 340 shovels in Canada. There have been no accidents reported, but it is an issue that should be fixed immediately. Either MSR or your local retailer can help you obtain a free replacement shaft.
The Operator T, Operator D, and Responder avalanche rescue shovels that are affected by the recall were purchased between October 2014 and January 2015. They cost between $60 and $70.
