Roof Avalanche Kills Mother And Child Near Kirkwood Mountain Resort In California

Kirkwood, California – On March 4, 2018 a mother and her 7-year-old son were caught, buried, and killed in a roof avalanche while skiing back to their condo complex near Kirkwood Mountain Resort in California.

The pair was reported missing at 18:40 by relatives. Rescuers responded and found the pair about 2 hours after the accident when an individual reported a ski glove in the snow. The pair was buried roughly 3 feet deep.

Time.com reports that “a chunk of snow about the size of a trailer fell from the roof of their vacation condo, burying them under about 3 feet (0.91 meters) of snow.” It’s being called a “freak accident.”
