The male ski tourer was a 24-year-old Chamonix native. He started his day at a hiking trail that leads to top of Les Houches Aiguillette. At approximately 2:45 PM, his father, a mountain guide, alerted authorities when the man did not return home.

Authorities searched the area by helicopter. They probed multiple avalanche slide paths before they found the ski tourer’s body near Lake Brevent at approximately 2125 meters. The High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon of Chamonix will investigate this avalanche incident further.

The avalanche risk was 4 of 5 at the time due to heavy snowfall in upper elevations and a south wind since Friday.

We will try to update this post as more information becomes available.
