January 2017 has brought a ridiculous amount of snow to regions of the western United States. It’s causing countless avalanches, hazard roads, and plenty of great skiing. In some spots there is so much snow that ski resorts are having to shut down! There’s even a spot in Utah that’s 200% of normal! Who has the deepest snowpack now?
Let’s take a look at the snow data for the western US compared to normal. Below is the Westwide SNOTEL Current Snow Water Equivalent % of Normal as of January 10, 2017. You can link to the most recent data from the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service here. It’s updated daily throughout the winter.
