Is it really already May? Most ski resorts have stopped spinning lifts for the season. Flowers are blooming in the valleys and flip flops are feeling super nice after a long winter in ski boots. But is ski season really over? Absolutely not.
There’s still plenty of snow up high and if you’re willing to work for it there will be human powered skiing for many more months in many parts of the mountain west. Whether you’re planning on ticking off big lines in your backyard or you’re keen for the annual spring skiing road trip, stay safe and have fun.
Let’s take a look at the snow data for the western US compared to normal. Below is the Westwide SNOTEL Current Snow Water Equivalent % of Normal as of May 1, 2018. You can link to the most recent data from the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service here. It’s updated daily throughout the winter.
