The International Business Times writes that Udhampur-based Defence spokesman Colonel SD Goswami says the soldiers were “hit by a snow avalanche at the Southern Glacier in Ladkah at 4:30 pm on Sunday.”

The soldiers belong to the 3 Ladakh Scouts. They were on foot patrol while opening a route in this remote region when they were caught by the avalanche. An army rescue crew responded and recovered the bodies on Monday.

According to the NewIndiaExpress.com, Colonel SD Goswami identified the deceased as Havialdar Dorjey Gason, Havaldar Tsewang Norboo, Rifleman Jigmat Chosdup, and Rifleman Mohammad Yusuf.

Our deepest sympathies go out to their families.
