Four Indian Soldiers On Foot Patrol Die In Avalanche In Remote Mountains of Kashmir
Yahoo News is reporting that four Indian soldiers were killed in an avalanche on Sunday, January 3, 2016. The avalanche occurred on the Siachen Glacier in Ladakh in the Himalayan Region of Jammu and Kashmir east of Srinagar – an area that recently received moderate to heavy snowfall.

The International Business Times writes that Udhampur-based Defence spokesman Colonel SD Goswami says the soldiers were “hit by a snow avalanche at the Southern Glacier in Ladkah at 4:30 pm on Sunday.”
The soldiers belong to the 3 Ladakh Scouts. They were on foot patrol while opening a route in this remote region when they were caught by the avalanche. An army rescue crew responded and recovered the bodies on Monday.
According to the NewIndiaExpress.com, Colonel SD Goswami identified the deceased as Havialdar Dorjey Gason, Havaldar Tsewang Norboo, Rifleman Jigmat Chosdup, and Rifleman Mohammad Yusuf.
