Boulder, Colorado – On Sunday, August 6, 2017 a 17-year-old fell more than 100 feet on the First Flatiron near Boulder while free climbing. The teen suffered massive trauma and was found at the base of the rock formation by a hiker.
Investigators found that the teen was climbing alone when the incident occurred. They note that the victim posted a selfie from the top of the First Flatiron shortly before the accident occurred.
According to the DailyCamera.com, the climber had “camping and outdoor survival gear — but no climbing-specific equipment.”
KDVR.com identified the victim as Carter Christiansen of Maple Grove, Minnesota.
