Miranda Oakley Climbs The Nose In 21 Hours, 50 Minutes Breaking The Women’s Speed Record On The Classic El Cap Route
Yosemite National Park – Miranda Oakley, 32, solo climbed the Nose on El Capitan in 21 hours and 50 minutes setting a new record and becoming the first woman to climb the Nose in under 24 hours.
In 2014, Chantel Astorga became the first female to solo the Nose. She climbed the Nose in 24 hours, 39 minutes. In 2015 Oakley made an attempt in 26 hours. In 2016, the record now belongs to Miranda Oakley.
The route on the 3593 foot vertical wall of granite called El Capitan is a 5.9 C2 3,000-foot route according to RockAndIce.com. It was first climbed by Warren Harding, Wayne Merry, George Whitmore in 1958 in 47 days. The fastest ascent of the Nose belongs to Hans Florine and Alex Honnold who climbed it in 2:23:46.
