This multi-use trail system consists of greenways, waterways, and roadways that travel through urban, rural, and wilderness areas. It will be open to bikers, hikers, horses, cross country skiers, and snowmobilers. There are even river sections for kayakers and paddlers.

The Great Trail project began in 1992. It is funded by private donors, but the Canadian Government is matching 50 cents for every dollar donated. Each section is being completed locally. It is “a gift from Canadians to Canadians.”
