Sherpa Missing After Avalanche Hits Mountaineering Expedition On Himlung Himal In Nepal

Himlung Himal, Nepal – On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 27, an avalanche hit a mountaineering expedition near Camp II on Himlung Himal (7126m) in Nepal. The Department of Tourism has confirmed that Mingmar Sherpa of Taksindu -5, Solukhumbu, a climbing Sherpa, is missing after the incident (TheHimalayanTimes.com).

The 8-member expedition was managed by Active Holiday Treks. At this point, the Sherpa’s fate is still officially unknown. Rescue efforts will be conducted soon.

For the autumn season there were 50 climbing permits issued for 5 teams on Himlung Himal. Himlung Himal sits at 7126 m / 23373′ in the Manaslu region to the NE of the Annapurna Range near the Tibet/Nepal border. It opened for climbing in 1992.
