Avalanche Hits Road And Kills Local Driver In Svaneti, Georgia

Svaneti, Georgia – On Wednesday, December 21, 2016 a local resident was killed in an avalanche in the Greater Caucasus Mountain range of the Svaneti province of northwestern Georgia.

The avalanche victim was a minibus driver who stopped on the road between Jvari and Mestia to inspect the avalanche debris left on the road after it was hit by an avalanche. While he was stopped and out of his vehicle, another avalanche came down and buried him.

The body was sent to Khaishi. The road is now closed to all traffic. An investigation will be launched.
